Lead Exposure through Work?
If you answered yes to any of these questions you or your child may also be at risk for lead poisoning. Blood level screening is also suggested
for pregnant women who have answered yes to any of these questions.
Childhood lead poisoning is a major, preventable environmental health
problem in the United States. Blood lead levels (BLL's) as low as
10ug/dL (micrograms per deciliter) are associated with harmful effects
on children's ability to learn. Very high BLL's (>70ug/dL) can
cause devastating health consequences, including seizures, coma,
and death. One of the goals of Healthy People 2010 is the elimination of childhood lead poisoning as a Public Health problem.
Community Health offers capillary lead screening to any interested adult and child. Call
751-8110 to
schedule an appointment for this screening.
